5 minutes with…Heloise O’Hagan

Heloise O’Hagan is a candle designer with a difference. We sat down to ask her all about her sustainable candle range.

Can you tell us about how your candle range was conceived?

The range was initially designed to gift to my Interior Design clients. Clients now return to buy my candles for their own homes and the business has since developed organically! Each candle has a soft, never overpowering, and perfectly balanced blend of fragrances.

How do you achieve this?

We use pure, essential oils to create our blends and the ratio of these to wax is as high as we can take it without impacting the burn time or safety of the candles. The wax is plant-based and the combination of these ingredients coupled with our cotton wicks means that the burn is clean and non-toxic.

Hand-dyed box ribbons by Cloth using local Forsythia.

Your packaging is beautifully distinctive, tell us a little bit about their environmental credentials.

Thank you! Each and every aspect of our product is made in the UK. The paper for our packaging is made from recycled coffee cups produced by a British paper mill in Cumbria. Our beautiful boxes, which are finished off so exquisitely ribbon pulls hand-dyed by Cloth, are intended to be kept and reused, but if not, are fully recyclable.

And we hear you offer a candle refill. Can you tell us all about that?

Our bone China vessels are too beautiful to dispose of so we created a refill called the Perpetual Candle. Once your candle has expired, you can order your choice of candle refill and slip it into the washed vessel, ready to burn again.
